Sex-structured model of Wolbachia invasion and design of sex-biased release strategies in Aedes spp mosquitoes populations

چکیده
Laboratory experiments as well some field essays have revealed that the intracellular bacterium Wolbachia, deliberately introduced in Aedes spp female mosquitoes, drastically reduces their vector competence for dengue virus and, also, other mosquito-borne viral diseases. However, mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia still need to ingest human blood while male either wild or Wolbachia-carrying, do not bite people. As such, Wolbachia-carrying females may transmit people during blood-feeding, even though far less probability than ones. Therefore, massive releases of increase both nuisance and epidemiological risk among residents. With goal exploring depth practical aspects sex-biased releases, we introduce this paper a simple sex-structured model invasion brings forward possibility developing male-biased release strategies Wolbachia-carriers leading invasion. Thanks model, study at length minimal amount necessary complete task, according relative sex-ratio released schedule. We also pay attention estimate time needed achieve ultimate population replacement.

Characterization of dengue virus in Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus spp. of mosquitoes: A study in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan
Dengue is a vector-borne disease caused by dengue virus. According to the recent report of CDC that one-third population of the world are at high risk with Dengue fever. The prevalence of the dengue hemorrhagic fever was found more in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. Aedes mosquitoes was reported as the main cause of transmission of dengue virus. So the current study was planned ...
متن کاملFilarial susceptibility and effects of Wolbachia in Aedes pseudoscutellaris mosquitoes.
The mosquito Aedes pseudoscutellaris (Theobald), a member of the Aedes (Stegomyia) scutellaris complex (Diptera: Culicidae), is an important vector of subperiodic Wuchereria bancrofti (Cobbold) (Spirurida: Onchocercidae), causing human lymphatic filariasis, on South Pacific islands. Maternal inheritance of filarial susceptibility in the complex has previously been asserted, and larval tetracycl...
متن کاملOptimal sex ratios in structured populations.
In this paper, we develop a general method to determine evolutionary equilibrium sex ratios and to check evolutionary stability, continuous stability and invadability in exact genetic models with or without dominance. This method is then applied to three kinds of models for structured populations: the first one concerns Hamilton's LMC model, except that only a fraction beta of female offspring ...
متن کاملStrategies for Introducing Wolbachia to Reduce Transmission of Mosquito-Borne Diseases
Certain strains of the endosymbiont Wolbachia have the potential to lower the vectorial capacity of mosquito populations and assist in controlling a number of mosquito-borne diseases. An important consideration when introducing Wolbachia-carrying mosquitoes into natural populations is the minimisation of any transient increase in disease risk or biting nuisance. This may be achieved by predomin...
